Verses 1-6
-
After Christ returns, the devil will be imprisoned in the bottomless pit for a period of one-thousand years.
-
During these one-thousand years, Christ will personally reign on the earth, seen by all, and all believers will be on the earth with Him in their new bodies.
-
When Christ returns, He brings with Him those who were in heaven with Him (1 Thessalonians 4:14). Therefore, all believers, those on earth and those who were in heaven, will be with Christ on earth during the Millennium.
-
See Old Testament descriptions of this period in Psalm 72, Isaiah 11:4-9, and Daniel 7:17-18, as a few examples.
-
-
Certain believers, including the twelve apostles, will be entrusted with leadership authority on the earth (1 Corinthians 6:2-3, Matthew 19:28). These will be judges like those we read about in the book of Judges, when certain men were appointed to lead the Israelites.
-
-
Who will these believers judge? Or who will still be alive on earth when Christ comes? Any unbeliever who died during the Tribulation, it seems, will not be seen on earth during these one-thousand years, but some will have survived the Tribulation.
-
At this time, unbelievers will have been fully exposed and separated from believers (Matthew 25:32-33), as Christ comes to divide man. However, the final judgment for unbelievers will not come until the end of the millennium, which is when all remaining unbelievers will be permanently removed from the earth and the kingdom (Matthew 25:46, Revelation 20:7-15).

Verses 7-15
-
At the end of this millennium, Satan will be released from prison and get a chance to deceive the nations of the earth, which will have been populated during the millennium. He will successfully persuade them, and they will attack the “holy city” where believers dwell with Christ.
-
But they will be destroyed with fire, and Satan will be cast into the lake of fire forever. This is Satan's final judgment.
-
This shows that even after spending one-thousand years visibly seeing Christ, and without any external influence from the devil, men are still vulnerable to deception, and will still rebel in their own sin.
-
-
Then there will come a final judgment, called the Great White Throne Judgment or the Second Death, and all the dead (unbelievers) will be presented before Christ to receive a final punishment for their works.
