Verses 1-5

  • Expose false/demonic teachings and teach the truth.

    • Know that evil spirits (demons) can speak to you in a way that you can hear, just like the Holy Spirit speaks to you.

  • It is demonic to add commands that are not in the Bible.

    • Forcing celibacy and a strict diet, in order to follow Christ, are commands from the devil.

    • Such commands appear spiritual, but it is deception at its best.

    • See teaching on Colossians 2 for more details.

Verses 6-11

  • Teach from the Word. Do not teach or entertain topics that are meaningless.

  • Prioritize and teach living a godly life. Anything that doesn't help you become more godly isn't worth your while.

    • Godliness is what's important for this life and the life to come.

Verses 12-16

  • Verse 12. Especially if you're young, work hard at being mature and a good example in all areas.

    • Exemplary character will make you blameless, and people won't discredit you for your age.

  • Verse 14. Be a good steward of your gifts and abilities by using them to help others.

    • If you neglect using your gifts, they can be taken away (Matthew 25:29).

  • Verses 13, 15-16. Focus heavily on your study of the Word.

    • Having sound doctrine saves lives! Bad teaching kills!
