Revelation 22

Verses 1-5

  • Here is a description of what the landscape will be like in God's kingdom, when it has come to earth in its fullness. There will be a restoration of the perfection that was lost in the garden of Eden, but even better, as we will again have access to the tree of life. The best part is that we will see Christ and be with Him always.

Verses 6-17, 20-21

  • These events of the end, and of the restoration of all things, come quickly in the grand scope of things, and they will come suddenly.

  • If we know this, we must be careful to obey the Word, so that we are always ready for the end to come, if it must come.

    • The warnings of this book are meant to move us to make a choice. Will be by holy or unholy? Make your choice. As a believer, choose to live holy!

      • This is the ultimate purpose of the book of Revelation in today's day and age—to move us to be obedient to God as we fear Him because of the end that is coming.

  • Verse 17. As time passes, pray for and encourage others to come to Christ! Anyone who desires can be saved, if they repent and believe.

Verses 18-19

  • Do not be guilty of altering the Scriptures or changing their message to mean something different than the intended meaning (Proverbs 30:5-6), and in this case, particularly the prophecies of Revelation.

  • Practically, be careful not to teach anyone a false interpretation of what Scripture says

    • The book of Revelation can be properly understood. Don't pervert its teaching by denying its relevance today.

    • Especially if you teach a version of Revelation which says that the end is not literal, you will lead many astray, and you will suffer judgment for it (James 3:1). Do not be among those who deny the literal return of Christ to judge the earth (2 Peter 3:3-4).
