The Great Tribulation happens in three waves of judgments. This chapter shows the end of the first wave (the seven seals) and the beginning of the second wave (the seven trumpets).
Verses 1-6

The ending of the first wave of judgments (the seven seals) includes a preparation in heaven involving our prayers, a censer and incense from heaven, and a tremor on earth.
Verses 7-13

The first four trumpets, when they sound, results in a third of the earth's natural resources and ecosystem being destroyed.

Many people will die from this, and believers will have to endure the discomforts associated with it.

God protected the Israelites during the ten plagues on Egypt, before the Exodus, and we also will be protected, so long as we are obedient to the instructions we are given by the Spirit. Things like food and water will be miraculously provided.

To prepare for this, being diligent to grow in your faith and patience is what's important.

As 2 Peter 1:10 says, “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble.”
