Verses 1-3

Verse 1. In Christ we have everything we need. He takes care of us.

Learn to be content simply with having a relationship with Christ (Philippians 3:8-10, 4:11-13).

Verses 2-3. God gives us rest for our minds.

Verse 3. Rest comes to us when we follow His Word and obey it.

The green grass and water that sheep eat and drink represents how God feeds us. God leads us to feed on His Word. Read and do what is in the Word and you will have rest.

Verse 4

Verse 4a. If we truly understood and believed that God is with us, we would not fear.

Focus on the presence of God with you, and this will help you not to fear.

Verse 4b. The rod and staff represent God's instruction/correction, and His protection.

The rod was a weapon used to fend off predators. The staff was used to correct the course of sheep that veered away from the flock.

Understand God uses His Word, and other people, to bring us correction and to protect us from going astray.

Focus on the Word and receive correction, and you will be comforted.

Verse 5-6

Verse 5. God preparing a table before us in the presence of our enemies is about God boldly showing us His favor towards us.

You do not have to be afraid of the enemy because, if God is for you, no enemy can succeed against you (Romans 8:31).

Verse 6. God's favor is that we will always have His goodness and mercy (Isaiah 54:10),in Christ, and we will be in His kingdom forever. Let this comfort you in times of distress.
