Verses 1-4
-
It is good to praise and thank God because He is worthy of it, but doing so is especially good for our own joy and gladness.
-
If, every morning before you begin your work and every evening before you sleep, you make a practice of giving thanks to God, your joy in Christ will increase dramatically! Do it! See Psalm 55:17 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 for further encouragement.
-
Focus especially on thinking of all of God's works in your life. Reminding yourself of these things will do well for your joy.
-
-
If you want to engage your emotion more, and experience greater gladness in a moment, make it musical! Play an instrument if you know how, or simply sing your prayer!
-
Verses 5-9
-
The works and especially the thoughts of God are far deeper than any human can comprehend. You know a fool by their boastful, pretentious claim to have fully grasped the things of God.
-
In the end, this pride leads to destruction.
-
-
So, if you have any sense, never think that you have full understanding of God. Our understanding is limited, and this should keep us humble. Always be seeking a deeper understanding, and remind yourself often of the unfathomable depths of God, so that you do not grow arrogant in any knowledge that you do have.
-
Through the Holy Spirit we can gain a deeper understanding of the things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). If you want greater understanding, ask questions to those who are more knowledgeable than you, and then check everything you hear with the Word. Also pray for understanding and seek to hear from the Holy Spirit better!

Verses 10-15
-
If you are planted, you'll flourish. No matter how old, strength, energy, and fulfilled desires are the fruits of those who stay grounded in the Word and in obedience to God.
-
If we are going to stay energetic, it must be to declare the Word of God to others. Therefore, the more devoted you are to building God's kingdom, the more energy from the kingdom you will be supplied with.
-
-
Being planted is about consistency. Build consistency in your obedience to the Word, and over time you'll see great growth. Build and keep good habits; that's what it means to be planted in your actions.
