Verses 1-9

  • Verses 1-4. Wisdom is always trying to get our attention, and there are always opportunities to gain it.

  • Verses 5-8. God's wisdom is only good and leads you into good; it will never lead you into sin or anything bad for you.

  • Verse 9. Seek to gain knowledge from the Word and you will gain deeper understanding of why it is always good to obey the Word

    • You will come to trust the Word more deeply.

Verses 10-16

  • Wisdom is better than all riches. If you gain wisdom and fear God:

    • You will hate sin,

    • You'll be strong-minded, and

    • You'll be able to govern your life like a great king.

Verses 17-21

  • If you love wisdom, your wisdom will bring you many blessings in your life, including more wealth.

    • Do not seek wisdom for money, but understand that having wisdom does create more wealth.

    • Understand that God is not against us having money. But desire wisdom; do not desire to be rich (1 Timothy 6:9). If you seek wisdom, God will be able to trust you with more money.

Verses 22-31

  • Wisdom is in God (John 1:1), and through wisdom God made the universe.

Verses 32-35

  • Having God's wisdom will bring great benefit to you. To gain His wisdom, seek it every day. How?

    • Read the Word every day.

    • Practice praying and listening to the Spirit every day (the Spirit brings wisdom [Ephesians 1:17]).

      • Do this by taking time for focused prayer and listening each morning (Isaiah 50:4).

      • Do this by, throughout your day, consistently praying and asking God for guidance in your actions.

Verse 36

  • Remember that if you neglect or reject wisdom, you will only hurt yourself.

  • You love death as much as you ignore wisdom. Every time you ignore a chance seek or gain wisdom, you are showing that you prefer death.
