6:1-6
-
Verses 1-2. It will turn out badly for you if you say you're going to do something that you cannot do (Proverbs 17:18).
-
It is sin if you do not keep your word.
-
Verse 3. If you cannot do what you said, be quick to apologize. Do not delay(verse 4).
-
You're being prideful if you avoid admitting you're wrong. The longer you delay, the worse it will become for you.
-
-
6:6-11
-
Ants constantly work hard, and they don't need someone to push them. They are self-motivated.
-
We should be like ants. Be a hard worker and do not expect others to push you.
-
It is lazy to need someone to push you to do what is good.
-
-
Verses 9-11. Sleep only as long as you need to, and be productive in the time that you are awake.
-
It is lazy to sleep longer than you need to.
-
6:12-19
-
Verses 12-15. Continuing to practice sin makes you worthless. In other words, you won't be very useful for building God's kingdom if your actions are not godly.
-
Practicing sin will lead to many problems that you will not be able to fix, unless you repent.
-
You have to repent from sin if you're going to be useful to God (2 Timothy 2:20-21).
-
-
Verses 16-19. Understand that God doesn't see all sin the same way. These sins are some of those that are especially bad in God's eyes.
6:20-23
-
If you focus on learning and doing the Word, the Word will come to mind when you need it, and it will guide your actions like a lamp in darkness.
6:24-35
-
The Word is meant to keep you away from sin (1 John 2:1). Without focusing on the Word, you cannot avoid sin.
-
Verse 25. If you will avoid sexual sin or lust, do not allow your mind to lust after someone.
-
To help your mind, do not even look, if you cannot look with a pure mind(Job 31:1).
-
-
-
Verse 26-29. Your life is precious. If you value yourself, you will not sin.
-
You will not escape the consequences of sexual sin. It will rob you of your health in time.
-
-
Verses 30-35. People will find reasons to justify a thief, but adulterers are especially foolish.
-
Lust is not like hunger. Someone who steals food to satisfy hunger can be overlooked. But when you lust and take pleasure not meant for you, it will not be overlooked. Why? You are not starving, and you do not need it. If you lust it's not because you lack satisfaction; it's because you lack understanding.
-
Avoid lust at all costs, because it causes adultery in the mind (Matthew 5:27-29), which leads to adultery in one's actions.
-
Anyone who commits sexual sin does great harm directly to himself (1 Corinthians 6:18).
-
-
And someone who commits adultery will turn others against him as well, especially the spouse of the one he committed adultery with.
-
7:1-4
-
Keep God's Word close to you. Make it the most important thing in your life.
7:5-21
-
Young people are often more vulnerable to being deceived by sexual sin. Especially if you're young, focus on gaining wisdom.
-
Verses 10-13. Avoid adulterous or promiscuous people.
-
Promiscuous people:
-
Verse 10. Dress in revealing clothing,
-
Verse 11a. Are often boisterous or loud,
-
Verse 11b. Rebel against instruction,
-
Verse 12. Wander around looking for attention,
-
Verse 13. Are quick to show physical affection,
-
Verses 14-17,21. Use words to flatter and attract,
-
Verses 18-20. Do not respect monogamy.
-
-
7:22-27
-
Going after a promiscuous person is like going to be butchered like an animal. It will lead to terrible consequences.
-
Verse 25. If you want to avoid this, do not even come close to sexual sin.
-
Verse 26. Do not be proud. Even the strongest men can fall into sexual sin if they're not careful (Hebrews 12:1, Matthew 26:41, 1 Corinthians 10:12).
