Take steps to implement the changes/actions you see below. Once you are actively doing something on the list, and you've made it a habit, move on to forming a habit doing the next item on the list. Take it a step at a time, but feel free to do multiple things on the list at once if you can!
- Read your Bible every day (Romans 12:2).
- Intentionally remain in or pursue a relationship that tests your patience (one where it takes a person a longer amount of time to make progress).
- To build self-control (patience is rooted in self-control), start and continue in getting vigorous exercise on a regular basis (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). Gradually increase the intensity, and this will help build more patience to continue the habit.
- To continue to increase self-control and patience, fast (eating no calories and drinking only water) for a full 24 hours once per week (Psalm 35:13, Psalm 69:10). And praying, while fasting, for greater self-control in the area of patience.
- Do at least one long fast (7 days or more), and do it again at a determined time in the future.
- Work at a financial goal that will take time to grow, little-by-little, and don't give up on it (Proverbs 13:11, 21:5).
Other ideas to grow your patience. Grow your patience by embracing situations that cause discomfort or suffering or that tempt you to be frustrated. Continue in these situations without giving up.
-
Stay in a relationship that tests your patience.
-
Fast from food for a number of days.
-
Continue practicing another good habit even if you don't see immediate fruit.
