Psalm 40

Written on 05/09/2024

Verses 1-4

  • When dealing with frustrations, it is important not only to wait for God's answers/solutions, but also to wait patiently.

    • Patience and prayer will bring solutions that will cause great joy and praise to God

      • Impatience will only make things worse.

    • Be patient by using prayer to keep your mind cheerful and focused on trusting God, rather than impatient and frustrated.

    • Also keep your trust in God through godly, moral conduct. Don't turn to sin. This also abandons patience.

Verse 5

  • Remember that God's works in your life and His thoughts about you are innumerable, and they are all for your good.

    • Don't doubt that God is involved in your life! He is always working and accomplishing His perfect will for you.

Verses 6-8

  • This passage reminds us that what God desires from us is that we would listen to Him and obey Him.

    • Focus on growing in obedience to God. This is the greatest worship that you could ever offer Him!

      • This is far more valuable than any amends or apology for sin.

Verses 9-10

  • Do not be ashamed to tell people about God. Be bold to speak what the Word says!

Verses 11-13

  • When you are dealing with pain from your sin, focus on God's grace and mercy, and focus on the truth of His Word

    • Remember that you are forgiven in Christ, and that the Word will give you power to overcome. Pray, and fill your mind with the Word!

Verses 14-16

  • In the end, the wicked will be defeated, and you will have great joy in your salvation. Start rejoicing now! Be happy about the victory you have in Jesus!

Verse 17

  • Similar to verse 5, David highlight the amazing fact the God—the God of the universe—actually thinks about us!

    • Let this reality remind you to always pray, because God is pleased to hear you. He is thinking about you already!
