Proverbs 28

Verse 1

  • Being saved gives us the beginning of confidence before God (Ephesians 3:12), but if you want to be bold and confident in this world, live a life pleasing to God

    • The more obedient to God that you are, the bolder and more full of faith you will be (1 Timothy 3:13, Isaiah 32:17).

    • Sin brings a feeling of shame (Romans 6:21). This harms confidence.

Verse 4

  • Remember that disobedience to God's Word is approval and praise of wickedness. Let this convict you, and repent from sin!

Verse 5

  • Remember that you will have all the understanding that you need in life if you always seek it from God and His Word. But if you choose to stay in sin, you will be confused.

Verse 9

  • God won't hear a person's prayers if they are willingly ignoring His Word. A person cannot have a connection with God, once they know about His Word, if they don't believe it.

    • If you want your prayers to be effective, always read the Word, and believe every part of it

Verse 11

  • Just because a person is rich doesn't mean they are wise. Often times, rich people are prideful.

    • Don't look for wisdom from a person just because they're wealthy. Sometimes a person with little will be wiser and bring you more value than a wealthy man.

Verse 13

  • As a believer, if you have sin, admit it and change your ways. This will bring you mercy from others. But if you keep on sinning, things will be hard, and there won't be progress.

Verse 19 – See Proverbs 12:11

Verse 20

  • If you are consistent and endure patiently in your work, you will have an abundance. But try to get rich quickly, avoiding hard work, and you will suffer for it.

    • By all means, do not be afraid of work and patience. There are better results for those who labor patiently.

Verse 23 – See Proverbs 27:5-6

Verse 25

  • Remember that pride causes fighting. Where people are fighting, pride is always involved. If you want to prevent conflict, humble yourself and admit your wrongs always!

Verse 26

  • Do not trust your feelings. It is foolish to trust your feelings. But if you live wisely by following the Word, you will save yourself from trouble.

    • Use the Word to judge whether your thoughts are good, and this will guide your decisions. Always rely on the Word first!

Verse 27

  • Remember that God will take care of you if you work to be generous to the needy

    • Don't work merely for yourself, while ignoring others, or you will have trouble.
