Verses 1-7

The Psalmist begins by thanking God for His works, after which God Himself interjects to describe His works and how we should respond.

God has made the earth and everything in it, and God alone can destroy it all. On a smaller scale, God has made humans, and He is in control of raising people up or putting them down.

The application is simple. Don't praise yourself for anything you accomplish. Also, don't ever think you get “lucky”. It is from God that any success or promotion comes. Thank Him in all circumstances. This is one way you can humble yourself.

Verses 8-10

Do not be among those who are wicked, as they will be punished. Instead, be found praising God at all times.

Wine-making is commonly used in the Bible as a metaphor for God's wrath and judgment (Revelation 14:18-20). Like wine, the outpouring of God's wrath involves a process. God is patient to wait for the day when He will judge the earth. In the meantime, like wine, His wrath is being prepared.
