Verses 1-7
-
Hezekiah showed more to the Babylonians than he should have.
-
It's possible that the Babylonians retained the memory of all the great treasures in Hezekiah's house, and in the house of God; and this could have caused a covetousness that in part incited Nebuchadnezzar to invade Israel about 100 years later.
-
-
Simply put, don't show off what you have to others. Doing so is a form of pride that will reap consequences in the future.
Verse 8
-
Here Hezekiah has a good response to Isaiah's prophecy. He quietly submits to God's Word, even though it spoke of doom and destruction for the next generations. Then he shows appreciation for the peace that he would have in his remaining years.
-
Remember that every word that God speaks is good, even if it means it will bring suffering. Quietly accept what the Word says (James 1:21). In the meantime, be thankful for any peace that you do have.
