Isaiah 30

Verses 1-5, 8-14

  • It is rebellion to ignore or disobey the Holy Spirit. Understand that the Spirit speaks to us all, but we often choose to ignore it. Instead, we often trust in our own thoughts and plans, without seeking guidance from God's Word or His Spirit.

    • This is sin! Listen to the Word and listen to your convictions! If you have a thought to change your ways in a given area, listen and obey! Don't disobey the Spirit.

    • If you disobey, it will only lead to shame and disappointment.

Verses 6-7

  • Here we learn that the Israelites, in rebellion against the Spirit, tried to bring riches to Egypt on the backs of their animals, as a way of gaining their favor, but it failed.

    • Do not trust in man's help nor in money! Trust in God!

  • Notice something interesting, that “fiery flying serpents” exist. Winged serpent-like creatures are real!

Verses 15-26

  • If we return to the Lord, cast away sin, and learn to rest quietly through trust in Him, we will have God's favor.

    • And through the quietness of mind that we will have, through our trust in God, we will be able to hear the guidance of His Spirit “behind” us at any time, and even in times of adversity. The Spirit will be as a teacher that abides with us (John 14:26).

  • The more quiet and rested your mind is, the more you will hear from the Holy Spirit. Practice trust and rest by going to God in prayer as a daily habit. Also practice being still in silence and listening.

Verses 27-33

  • The sinful world will be judged in God's wrath, but we will be able to rejoice about it!

  • In the future day of judgment, as in the past, God will show Himself openly. How so? He will cause everyone on earth to hear His voice at once, when Christ is coming to judge, and everyone will see His glory.

    • In this sense, “every eye will see Him” (Revelation 1:7) also means that every ear will hear Him.
