Verses 1-8
-
David acknowledges repeatedly that only in God will he have all that he needs. So he says, twice, “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.”
-
Only from God can we expect solutions. And since He always acts in perfect timing, all we can do is wait for Him.
-
And in order to experience “trust in Him at all times”, we have to wait silently. We must remind our minds to be patient and quiet. A quiet mind is one that trusts in God in all circumstances.
-
Verses 9-10
-
In times of difficulty, don't trust in human competence or money.
-
No matter their status, humans fail. And no matter how much you have, money fails too.
-
-
And certainly don't turn to sinful or oppressive tactics to obtain a desire.
-
Refrain from worrying or fretting, as this causes foolish decisions.
-
Verses 11-12
-
David, through his patience with God and trust in Him, heard from God and learned that both power and mercy come only from Him; and this is why he trusted in Him.
-
You also, learn a quiet trust in God. If you learn to keep your mind quiet, as David personally experienced here, God will speak, and you will hear Him, and this will bring solutions.
-
A quiet mind hears the voice of the Holy Spirit, and through patience we learn this quietness.
-
Practice patience by doing things that test your patience, and without giving up or forfeiting the process.
-
Being patient to pray and listen for the voice of the Spirit every day (Matthew 6:6, Matthew 10:27), being patient to continue in a difficult relationship, being patient to continue in a habit of physical discipline...all these things will grow you!
-
-
Do things that test your patience, such as enduring through uncomfortable situations without giving up; and practice being still in moments (Psalm 46:10, Psalm 4:4). This will help encourage a patient, quiet mind.
