Verses 1-7
-
The Old Covenant was based on earthly services that were a copy of an original service in heaven. Jesus' ministry is with the original tabernacle that is located in heaven.
-
Therefore, what Jesus does is far superior to what priests of the Old Testament could do.
-
Verses 8-13
-
Jesus came to bring in a second, new covenant to replace the old one.
-
Under the Old Covenant people did not and could not obey God (verse 9), the Word was on tablets of stone but never in their hearts (2 Corinthians 3:2-3,7), and they were under God's wrath (Romans 4:15).
-
Under the New Covenant:
-
We can experience a new heart—a renewed mind by reading God's Word (Ezekiel 36:26). Renew your mind daily!
-
We can have a personal relationship with God, where all of us can be close to God, and all of us possess the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36:27). Draw near to God for yourself, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). Don't depend on someone else's relationship with God to keep you secure.
-
Under the Old Covenant, only a select few had knowledge of and relationship with God. Now all of us can have this, and we don't need to depend on another human, like a priest or prophet, to connect us to God. We all come to God through Christ alone!
-
-
We have grace and mercy from God, and all of our past time as unbelievers has been forgotten and washed away (Hebrews 9:15b, Acts 17:30).
-
Move on from your old ways, and don't hold on to any guilt. Rejoice in your salvation, and move forward being obedient to God in appreciation for what Christ has done for you (1 Peter 1:14-16, Titus 2:11-14)!
