Verses 1-4
-
God gave the law through angels in the Old Testament (Acts 7:53); and people who rejected that law were all punished (Hebrews 10:28).
-
Since Christ is greater than the angels, it's even more critical that we listen and obey; and our punishment will be worse if we reject Christ.
-
Verse 4. The gospel we believe has been and is proven by many signs and wonders. Trust the Word and listen!
-
God works miracles when He wills for them to take place, just as the Spirit distributes supernatural gifts according to His will (1 Corinthians 12:11).
-
-
Verses 5-9
-
Even though Jesus is higher than all angels, to save us, He became a man and suffered the weakness and death of the cross.
-
As a result, He is crowned with glory and honor, and everything is under His feet.
Verses 10-17
-
In becoming a human, Jesus became one with us (1 Corinthians 6:17). We are called both His brethren and His children.
-
In becoming one with us, as a fellow human, His death saved humans. Death is now an entrance into eternal life! We no longer have to fear death!
-
This also destroyed the way in which the devil operated in the past, to have power over us (Acts 26:18).
-
Even over those who were righteous, the devil had more freedom, in the Old Testament, to oppress. But when Jesus came, He interjected. Now there is a type of protection for us (Romans 8:31-39, Luke 10:19), so that the devil is restricted in what he can do.
-
In Jesus' name we have authority over demons (Mark 16:17).
-
Possessing the Holy Spirit and the Word we can fend off many demonic oppressions (Ephesians 6:17).
-
-
-
Also, in being human and experiencing our temptations (Hebrews 4:15), Jesus is able to help us when we are tempted.
-
-
Only God brings salvation and forgiveness (Mark 2:7, Isaiah 43:25, 59:16). But man must pay the penalty for man's sins (Ezekiel 18:20, Romans 5:19). Therefore, to be Savior, Jesus is both God and Man.
