Verses 1-6
-
The Sabbath allows us to do good work to bring rest and healing to others.
-
Work hard to serve others, to bring rest and healing to them, and you are also fulfilling the meaning of the Sabbath.
-
Verse 5. Notice that Jesus looked at them with anger. He was angry about the sin that was ailing their hearts, and this is part of what motivated Him to work the miracle.
-
This is a good kind of anger. If you notice yourself angry about someone's sin or suffering, take action to help the person or situation!
-
-
Verses 7-12
-
Notice that Jesus worked hard to help as many people as He could, while keeping just enough distance that He was not hurt by their pressing needs.
-
You also work hard to help as many people as you can, but don't take it so far that your physical safety or health is compromised.
-
Verses 13-19
-
Following Jesus is about learning to be close to Jesus (to be with Him), learning to spread the gospel, and learning to do it with power.
-
Focus on being close to Christ, by following His ways as recorded in the Word, and you will be able to spread the gospel effectively.
-
Verses 20-30
-
Satan cannot and will not cast his own demons out of people.
-
Therefore, casting out demons cannot be a work of the devil. It is a work of the Holy Spirit.
-
It is blaspheming the Holy Spirit, and a growing danger to a person, to call works of the Holy Spirit evil or demonic. Be careful to know what comes from the Spirit and to not speak negatively about any of it.
-
Verses 31-35
-
Jesus' true family is spiritual, not biological.
-
For us, our loyalty must be to our relationships with fellow believers first; as biological family might not be believers with us (Matthew 10:37).
-
Especially if you don't have much love with your biological family, seek closeness with other believers.
-
-
This is important because biological family is temporary, but the family of the church is eternal.
