Verses 1-16
-
It is evident that Lot had been negatively influenced as a result of living amongst people that were so wicked (2 Peter 2:7-8).
-
It is important that you stay close to people who are fellow believers, and spend a lot of time with them. If you work and operate around a lot of unbelievers, it can bring stress and weakness to you. Be around believers as much as possible, especially if you are around unbelievers often.
-
Verse 15. Like Lot would have been, we can end up destroyed along with sinners if we do not separate ourselves from companionship with sinners (Proverbs 13:20).
-
Verses 17-29
-
Verse 26. Unlike Lot's wife, do not miss the world or the sins in the world. These only lead to death (Romans 6:21). This is dangerous to your faith.
-
You can fall back into old sins if you think of them (Hebrews 11:15). Do not think about past sins (Colossians 3:2-5).
-
Verses 30-38
-
People make foolish decisions when they feel alone or hopeless. Lot and his daughters could have returned to Abraham, but the horror of watching the sin and destruction of Sodom caused them not to think clearly.
-
Watch out for weaker believers that are around a lot of unbelievers. These are in a greater danger.
-
Also watch out for believers that are focused more on how much sin there is in the world than they are on the good that is in God. These are also in a greater danger.
