Verses 1-13
-
Verse 2. Abram, after his sin in Egypt, still came back to where he left off. Even when you sin, simply return to what is right and keep growing. Remember that you still have God's favor.
-
Verses 5-13. Abram and Lot both grew in wealth of numbers and livestock to the point where they could no longer live together on the same plot of land. There wasn't enough room. When they considered other land around them, one part was better than the other. At first, they argued about who would get the better part of the land.
-
Abram gave up the better part of the land to Lot in order to stop the conflict, and to keep peace in his relationship with him.

In times where you and someone else want the same thing, and there could be conflict, it is always better to give up what you want to the other person, in order to avoid conflict.
-
Always choose what will keep or bring peace in your relationships (Romans 12:18). Do not choose the way of getting what you want. In the end, if you choose what is selfless, it will be better for you; you will be happier (Proverbs 17:1).

Verses 14-18
-
This is a time when God reminded Abram of His promise to him. Notice that God wanted to keep reminding Abram of His Word, to support his faith.
-
We need to be reminded of what the Word says always. Read the Word daily to keep yourself always reminded (2 Peter 1:12-13).
