Psalm 53

Written on 05/09/2024

Verse 1

  • It is foolish and illogical to believe that God does not exist (see Romans 1:18-20).

  • And the beginning of much sin is denying God. People who have no fear of God, or believe that God does not exist, create many excuses to sin.

Verses 2-3

  • But do not think of the atheist as worse than you. We all, at some point in our lives, have lived without fear of God and in sinful ways.

  • Therefore, no one on earth is a good person. We all have sinned, and we do not even seek God on our own.

    • We only seek and find God because God graciously draws us to Himself, even though we don't deserve a second chance (John 6:44).

    • Do not think that you are righteous or deserving of God's grace. Remember that you are saved because God chose to show you mercy (Titus 3:5).

Verse 4

  • Our lack of knowledge causes us not to think of God, nor pray to Him. We continue to sin, in part, because we lack knowledge (Jeremiah 4:22, Hosea 4:6).

    • God is gracious enough to give us the knowledge that we need in His Word. With His knowledge He draws us.

    • Always grow in knowledge of God's Word, and you will learn how to be closer to God and to avoid sin.

Verses 5-6

  • One day, the unbelieving will one day be in great fear of God because of His wrath(Revelation 6:15-16), although they began without having any fear

    • Be patient for the days of God's vengeance.

  • But because we fear God now, and have repented and believed in Jesus, we have salvation in Christ and will be rejoicing forever!
