Verses 1-4

In deep troubles, things can feel overwhelming. In these times, it is better to weary ourselves in crying out to God. Turn trouble into prayer!
Verses 5-6

We all have sin, and we're growing through things, and we have hardships. But pray that your choices and sufferings are a good example to others. Do not cause others to stumble or to become discouraged by your actions. Instead, the way you suffer, and yet remain obedient to God, should encourage others (2 Timothy 1:8).
Verses 7-18

People, even family, may be against you for your faith in Jesus. And because of your love for God, insults to God will feel like insults to yourself.

It will help, in times of grief, to pray and fast. Fasting, in particular, chastens the soul (Psalm 35:13). It is good for your mind.

You do not want to dwell on conflict or tumults, so prayer and fasting is a great remedy.

Verses 19-28

Most of these verses speak prophetically to Jesus' suffering. Jesus was offered vinegar on the cross, in fulfillment of this scripture.

And David makes a prayer for the punishment of those who so persecuted the innocent.

God marks those who harm his beloved. It will end badly for them—they will suffer God's wrath.

Verses 29-36

Knowing that you are saved, praise and magnify God with thanksgiving. It is very pleasing to God when we have a thankful attitude (Hebrews 13:15).

Thanksgiving magnifies God, in your own heart especially, because it makes you focus on God and His works, which enlarges your consciousness of His presence in your life.
