Psalm 37

Written on 05/09/2024

Verses 1-9

  • Do not envy sinners or unbelievers (Proverbs 23:17, Psalm 37:1-5) because the pleasures of sin are momentary and will end in death; but godliness brings satisfaction.
  • But through obedience to God you will have everything you need, and you will lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10, Psalm 23:1). Your desires will be fulfilled (verse 4).

    • Trying to fulfill desires in a sinful way never satisfies (Proverbs 27:20)

  • There is evil in the world, but it will soon be destroyed. So focus on your relationship with God and the fact that He is faithful. Obey God and enjoy Him. Don't worry or trouble yourself over the evil in the world.

    • If you honor and obey God with your actions, you will have what you heart desires. This will bring joy!

    • Remember that worrying will only make things worse for you.

Verses 10-15

  • If you focus on God and be patient, you will understand that the time of waiting for wickedness to end is really a short time

  • God laughs about the plans of the wicked.

    • You should have joy too, even about the plans of evil, if you understand the peace that is coming.

Verses 16-22

  • It might be frustrating to see evil men wealthy and prospering, but remember that, in the end, all the wicked will be destroyed, but the righteous will be saved and in heaven.

  • Eternal life is far better than temporary wealth and sin. Focus on eternal life!

    • Even on the earth, you will have protection from God.

    • After the day of judgment in the future, believers will be on a new earth with God forever!

Verses 23-36

  • Remember that God is joyfully guiding your steps, and He will protect you. God will never forsake His own people.

  • Your job is to stay away from sin and be obedient, and this will keep you from getting into unnecessary trouble.

  • One day you will see God's judgment (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10)!

Verses 37-40

  • All in all, as a believer, you can know that you will be in heaven one day.

  • While you're here, if you trust God's Word and stay obedient, you will have peace and will stay encouraged.
