Ecclesiastes 11

Verses 1-6

  • Evil times will come as surely as clouds empty their water and as surely as trees will remain where they fall. We don't always know what God will do/allow in life. But don't let this deter you from action. Don't wait for circumstances to be just right before you will work for something.

  • Instead, be prepared. Invest your time and money in multiple streams of income so that if one ever fails, you have a plan BAlso, be generous with your friends, giving both resources and knowledge. What you give and/or invest will return to you, but you will have to be patient. Reaping what you sow takes time (Galatians 6:9-10).

Verses 7-8

  • It is a gift to have life here on earth, and it is good to take joy in every day. But, it's also important to learn from days of hardship. Happiness can be vain as well if it's without moments of solemn contemplation about things like death and the meaninglessness of material things.

  • So, when dark days come, make sure you think about what matters and what doesn't matter. Learn and grow. And be thankful for what you learned through these dark days!

Verses 9-10

  • Youthfulness will pass away. It is vain because it is temporary. Make good use of your youthful energy while it lasts

    • Use your energy to work hard and build up resources for the future. Pursue your desires diligently. Keep your joy! Don't waste time and energy being depressed and living in sin.

  • God will judge you for everything you do, so make sure you stay obedient to the Word while you enjoy your time and pursue your dreams.
