Job 2

Verses 1-10

  • In this passage, we have almost identical events to those that took place in Chapter 1, but now Satan is permitted to bring his attack against Job's physical body.

  • Still, Job worships, even when he was urged by his own wife to curse God and hope to escape his suffering through death.

    • Accept adversity as warmly as you accept prosperity. Choose to be thankful for both

    • Great adversity may still cause great grief, and this is ok. What's important is that we, like Job, do not sin with our lips. Don't accuse God of doing something wrong or unjust. Keep your words pleasing to God.

Verses 11-13

  • Job's friends did well in this time at least. They were not too quick to speak, but knew that comforting Job required simply being present and weeping with him (Romans 12:15).

  • When you come to a friend, to comfort them in some hardship, don't think that you must speak immediately. Sometimes people just need someone to be present for a while.
