2 Timothy 1

Verses 1-8

  • It brings joy to see loved ones walking in genuine faith. But genuine faith requires action.

  • If you have faith, use the gifts you've been given! Using your gifts—putting your abilities into action that will help others—will help to keep your faith active.

  • Verses 7-8. Don't be afraid to take action, nor be afraid of persecution, as this kind of fear does not come from God.

    • Remember that God gives power, love, and a sound mind.

      • To keep a sound mind, read and meditate in the Word daily. This will fix your thinking so that you can repent from fears.

Verses 9-12

  • God chose to save us before time. This proves that salvation was a choice of His own, out of His own kindness, that we did not earn nor deserve (Ephesians 2:8-9).

  • Jesus came to reveal this salvation—which was that death would be ended, and we would be given eternal life in immortal bodies.

  • Knowing the greatness of this message, preach it boldly and do not be ashamed of it, nor of persecution from others for your faith (Romans 1:16).

    • Know who you believe, not just the message you believe. You trust in Christ, and Christ is powerful to protect both you and your salvation (1 Peter 1:5, John 10:28), so don't be afraid!

Verses 13-14

  • Be careful, when you share the Word, to teach it clearly and accurately, and in the right attitude—out of your own faith and love (see 1 Timothy 1:3-7).

    • Studying and sharing scripture is not to be an intellectual exercise or philosophical entertainment. It is meant to be shared out of sincere belief and genuine love for others.

Verses 15-18

  • You don't want to be known for deserting Christ or His people.

  • Do good and show kindness to other believers, and refresh them often.
