Serving Others – Teaching

Serving Mindset

Matthew 20:20-28

  • Do not seek greatness. This is the wrong goal. Seek to be well-pleasing to God (2 Corinthians 5:9).

  • Do not flaunt authority, force control, or demand respect.

  • Use your life to help others be saved an grow in all ways.

Philippians 2:3

  • View others' growth as more important than your own. Determine to put others first when needed, no matter how unfavorable to you it might be.

  • Set a great example, to inspire others, and then desire for others to excel you (John 14:11-12).

Matthew 6:1-4

  • Do not think about how your good works benefit you or bring you recognition. Just think about wanting to glorify God.

Colossians 3:23-24, 2 Corinthians 5:9

  • Focus on doing what benefits the kingdom first. We serve God before we serve anyone else.

Serving Actions

John 15:12-15

  • Be friendly and build friendships with others.

    • The disciples knew Jesus' love for them through His friendship with them.

    • The greatest love is shown through friendship, not simple acts for strangers, because loving a friend takes a lifetime of investment and sacrifice. Loving a stranger is but a moment.

    • Friendship allows you to know how you can serve someone, and it ensures that the serving and effects of it last over time.

1 Thessalonians 2:7-8, Romans 12:10-13

  • Friendly affection, sharing your life with others, patience with others, prayer for others, and constant hospitality are all part of friendship, and are all part of serving the Lord.

John 13:1-17

  • Do what's uncomfortable, messy, or inconvenient to help or bring relief to others, even in cases where is requires daily effort.

    • Anything you can do for someone else, that you find inconvenient, will help teach you to serve and be selfless.

1 Peter 4:10, Matthew 25:20-21

  • Use what you have to bring gain from it, whether it's money, gifts, or time; and use it to help others.

Matthew 22:37-40, Ephesians 5:28-29

  • Do the same things for others that you know you need for your own growth.

    • You need the truth. So speak the truth that will help someone, even if it hurts; don't lie or flatter, (Ephesians 4:15).

    • You need good teaching and examples. So help through sound words and a great example for others to follow (1 Timothy 4:6,12).

    • You need a healthy body, finances, and marriage. So work on these areas, and as you learn, share it with others to help them with the same.

Effects of Serving

John 12:26

  • God will honor you for your serving, whatever that looks like

1 Timothy 3:13

  • You will have a great reputation, and people will respect you. This will afford you even greater ability to help people.

John 14:11-12

  • When you serve well, you will multiply yourself. Meaning, other people will grow as much as you will, causing compounded and more widespread influence for the kingdom.

More than anything, serving glorifies God!
